We pulled up this morning in Joplin for a wee coffee stop before heading on to Miami, Oklahoma via Baxter Springs, Kansas where we went hunting for Toto without too much success, I was assured the road kill was something Granny Mae would brew & not Toto.
Made a stop at the Coleman Theatre in Miami which dates back to 1929. Originally a vaudeville theatre & movie palace, built by George Coleman, Sr who was a local mining magnate, with a Louis XV interior. They have a beautiful restored Wurlitzer pipe organ & a spectacular chandelier....Very impressive. "We don't own anything. We hold it in trust for the next generation" .....Apt!
I found a neat little antique store which I mozzied through, not the same era as in Ireland but some neat pieces all the same.
So we are now back on the truck & I am now starting to question ol' Tommy's navigational skills or should it be Gordy that I give my death stare too....we are a bus of 52 now on a dirt road looking at nothing but barley with shades of deliverance....a dust bowl of sorts....a very narrow dirt track & we are on it! Go west son, go west with this hillbilly truck. Tommy assures us he knows where he is going, I saw what he drank last night....reason for questionable doubt!
Definitely an old Route 66 road....wonder who is gunna wash this rig tonight!
I guess this is the yank version of the Aussie bush....yep road sure is!
Patty Page & her bow wow won't help at all mate!
Thank god that's over....no disrespect Ms Page.
